Baghchaal.com (“Baghchaal”, “we”, “us”) is a place to play and learn the Nepali tiger-and-goat game. We care about your privacy and keep the data we collect to a minimum. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

Information we collect
1. Your account (only if you choose to join)
You do not need an account to browse the site or to play against the computer. If you create a free member account, we store:
- Your email address — it is how you sign in and how we can reach you about your account. Your email also serves as your username.
- Your first name (and last name, if provided) so we can greet you and label your comments and profile.
- How you signed up (for example, by email link, Google, Microsoft or Facebook).
- The avatar you pick for your profile.
2. Your game progress
Practice games against the computer run entirely in your browser. If you are signed in, we save only the results — such as your number of wins, losses, streaks and best streak — to your account so we can show your stats and the leaderboard. Games played while signed out are never uploaded anywhere.
3. Comments
You can leave a comment (our “Chautari talk”) without an account. When you do, we store the name you type, your message, and — as is standard for WordPress — your IP address and the time of the comment, which help us prevent spam and abuse. We do not ask for your email to comment.
4. Messages you send us
If you use our contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you provide so we can reply. Your IP address is used briefly only to limit spam and is not kept as part of a profile.
5. Website analytics
We use our own lightweight, privacy-friendly analytics to understand how the site is used. It records only aggregate figures — total page views, a daily count of unique visitors, the general source of traffic (search, social or direct), which pages are popular, and the visitor’s country (which our content delivery network reports for us — never an address). It does not store IP addresses or build a profile of you, it uses a single short-lived cookie, and it ignores bots and site administrators. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking.
How we sign you in
Sign-in is passwordless. You can either request a one-time sign-in link sent to your email, or sign in with Google, Microsoft or Facebook. When you use one of those providers, we receive only your email address and name from them — nothing else. Their own privacy policies govern how they handle your information.
How we use your information
- To create and run your member account and sign you in.
- To save your game stats and show leaderboards.
- To display your comments and keep the discussion free of spam and links.
- To reply to messages you send us.
- To send you a welcome note, your sign-in links, and occasional updates about the site. You can ask us to stop these at any time.
- To keep the site secure and understand, in aggregate, how it is used.
Cookies we use
- baghchaal_lang — remembers whether you prefer English or Nepali (about one year).
- bg_vd — helps count daily unique visitors for our aggregate analytics (about one day).
- bg_oauth_state and bg_oauth_verifier — protect the sign-in process from tampering (a few minutes, only during sign-in).
- WordPress login cookies — set only when you are signed in, to keep you logged in.
Sharing and third parties
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share data only where it is needed to run the site:
- Sign-in providers (Google, Microsoft, Facebook) when you choose to sign in with them.
- Google Fonts, which we use for the site’s typefaces; loading these fonts may reveal your IP address to Google.
- Our hosting provider, which stores the website and its data on our behalf.
- Where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of the site and its users.
How long we keep it
Aggregate analytics are kept for roughly the last 45 days. Comments remain until you or we remove them. Your account information is kept for as long as you have an account; if you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal details.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you the personal data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR. To make a request, contact us through our contact page and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Children
Baghchaal.com is a family-friendly site but is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, please contact us and we will remove it.
Security
We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information, including passwordless sign-in and encrypted connections (HTTPS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to keep your data safe.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “last updated” date above. Significant changes will be made clear on this page.
