The board
Baghchaal is played on a square grid of five rows and five columns — 25 points in total, joined by horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines. Pieces sit on the points where lines cross, never inside the squares.
Not every point has diagonals. The long diagonals run corner to corner, and shorter ones link the mid-edges, so some points have four neighbours, some six, and the centre a full eight. Reading which points are “rich” in connections and which are “poor” is the first real skill of the game.
